Rare Southern Song /Yuan Jizhou Tea Bowl with plum blossom design painted in light blue and white toned over glaze, and indented lip. There is some very minute fritting on the mouthrim and a possible touch up on a one stroke in the design. To be honest I cannot tell, I have looked at this under high magnification and cannot detect any paintbrush stokes associated with repair but as the color is brighter and the surface is a bit rougher to the touch I cannot rule this out. 11.7cm/4.6in dia... Exceptionally fine sancai Jin Dynasty ceramic pillow with incised landscape design, combination of impressed and carved chrysanthemum frontal panel in amber glaze and recumbent deer in dark cream-colored glaze side panels. The Jin occupied much of Northern China during the decline of the later part of the Northern Song and throughout the Southern Song Dynasties. It is extremely rare to find this kind of piece with the glaze in such good condition, as most examples are very badly degraded... Click for details
Liao Dynasty “sancai” bowl in amber glaze. There are two small chips, which have been filled and touched up. 18.2cm/7.2diameter and 8cm/3.4in height. I purchased this in a lot of Liao ceramics from an old collection which are nowadays very hard to find.
Fine amber “sancai” type Gangwa Ware vase from the non Chinese Liao Dynasty, which paralled the Han Chinese 5 Dynasties and Northern Song. Excellent original condition, please note that the random spots of missing glaze on the body happened during firing in the kiln and is perfectly normal and “of the period” for these pieces. There is one tiny chip on mouthrim and a larger one that happened prior to firing and is covered in the original glaze that may be noticed in photos, also there is an orig... Click for details

AN OVOID BOTTLE WITH RUSSET GLAZE, JIN DYNASTY, 12TH ~ 13TH CENTURY.
Classic wine bottle with flanged neck, decorated with two stylised birds in flight. The contrast between the iron-oxide decoration and glaze is not pronounced as the bottle has fired to an attractive russet hue, a rarity in itself. The unglazed foot exposes a light and coarse body that indicates that this bottle comes from one of the Cizhou ... Click for details
A GOOD CHINESE QINGBAI BOWL, SONG DYNASTY, 10TH ~ 12TH CENTURY.
This is a museum quality bowl moulded with phoenix and flowers within a liewen border. Thin porcelains were difficult to fire without distortion and the potters overcame this by firing the bowl on its unglazed mouth rim. The glaze is also known as ying-ching, shadow blue, and with this ware colour is almost everything. This example exhibits a pale icy b... Click for details
Majiayao, Machang phase circa late 3000.BCE neolithic pottery basin. Usually I try to not go over the top with hyperbole in descriptions when listing an item, but to say this is “museum quality” is an understatement. Although a few pieces (usually jars) have this abstract anthropomorphic design on the outside this is the only one I have seen that has it painted on the inside of a ceramic vessel. Given that the basin is slightly contracted at the bottom yet the figure still appears in proportion ... Click for details
Northern Song vitreous glazed over white slip Cizhou jar. There is a simple repair on one side of the body which is pointed out in photos and chip on mouthrim. Dimensions: 13cm/2.9in width and 9.5cm/3.7in height.
A PAIR OF SONG DYNASTY QINGBAI DISHES, 10TH ~ 12TH CENTURY
A pair of deep dishes with carved decoration beneath a pale blue-green qingbai ( ying-ching ) glaze. The rims still have evidence of the bronze rims that were once applied to the unglazed rims of these dishes. Qingbai wares are often found with dull grey glaze, these dishes have the true “shadow blue” colour.
