Beautiful and unusual chest from China with a very interesting, highly figured hardwood with warm brownish tones. The chest is one solid piece with four drawers running along its top front and two sets of hinged doors on its bottom, with brass hinges and lockplates. Museum quality ancient Han dynasty, 206 BC – 220 AD, lead green deep dish from Luoyang, Henan Province. Excellent patina with the original silvering left intact on the rim of the dish. The 3rd photo shows a spur mark left by one of the clay firing stilts used to prop the dish to prevent it from sticking to the kiln floor. We have not seen another advertised for sale anywhere, other than the common cold painted types...

A rare and beautiful Chinese Huanghuali brush pot from the 16-17th century Ming dynasty, imitating style of bamboo. 11.5 cm height and 11 cm diameter. Nice old patina. Good overall condition, age wear, small chip on the foot.

Provenance: from the estate of Kimball-Jenkins, Concord, New Hampshire. Exhibited and illustrated in the book of "Classic Chinese Furniture", page 35.
