Japanese hanging tobacco pipe set consisting of a wooden pipe holder and a wood tobacco box in the form of the 2 mythical fishermen Ashinaga (Long Legs) and Tenaga (Long Arms). Tenaga's face lifts and functions as a cover for the tobacco box which still has much of the original tobacco inside. A bronze "bombe" form censer with original stand, profusely carved with mythical creatures and traditional stories and with two fish handles. The base carries the six character reign mark of the Xuande emperor (1426-1435) but this item was made later during the last 100 years of the Qing dynasty (circa 1810-1910). Condition very good - no damages or repairs. 24cm (9.5inches) across; 12cm (4.9inches) high with stand. Stand 17cm (6.7inches) diameter. Weight 2.5kg (5.5lbs).

Nicely squeezed and mold in shape and obtained the artistic interest.
Some similar pieces were found in Chinese documentation.

Date: Song Dynasty, 11th/12th century.
