Beautiful mother of pearl inlaid in hardwood. The arms are inlaid with a scroll design. The back of the chair is inlaid with an elegant battle scene with men on horseback and a fort. The reverse of the chair is inlaid with flowers. The seat has 4 petal pattern at each corner. The legs, arms, and frame of the chair are beautifully carved with bats, plums and a scrolling pattern. Measures 41" tall, seat measures 16" wide, 17.5" tall.

An appealing Seto ware Umanome (Horse eye) motif dish. This type of Seto ware was also referred to as ishizara, which can roughly be translated as stoneware. The first type of Seto stoneware appears in the Mino Taihei Monjo written around 1618. The wares were produced mainly for daily ware during the Edo period and became popular through the Mingei movement in the 20th century.

An interesting Japanese puppet head of an old woman used in Bunraku, the traditional puppet theater developed in the Edo period by Uemura Bunrakuken, which the name of the puppet theater was derived from. The puppet consists of several moving parts. The head and neck are two separate pieces that move up and down. The bar on the bottom assist the puppet master to move the head in various ways and the rope as a lever. Age: 19th century. Size: Height: 11" Width: 7" Length: 4"

A Chinese cabinet with two sections inside. The top shelf has two drawers and the bottom shelf has a single drawer. The bottom of the cabinet has metal rings to attach ropes, where the cabinet can be moved anywhere. A few similar cabinets were used by officials during the Qing to transport official documents when assigned to distant regions in the empire. A sublime square japanese export table decorated with scrolling clouds, flora, and rising dragons. The intricate and detailed carvings were popular during the Meiji period when most of Japan's fine arts and crafts were being exported to the West. Samurai Helmet depicted respectfully displayed on the stand. Painted on silk with ink and kindei, which is gold pigments. Beautiful antique red-toned bamboo brush holder from China with intricate carvings of various scenes including cherry blossom trees, a man leading a horse, two beautiful maidens shyly conversing with a young gentleman, an older man admiring the scenery through his window, and kanji reading "carved in the year of the tiger by San Miao". This is a very nice Meiji vase from Meizan. It has excellent gold detail and enameling. It is even finished off at the inner top rim area with fine white enamel beads. The work rivals that from the Yabu Meizan factory and it is believed that some of the Meizan artists went on to work for Yabu Meizan. This beautiful 5 inch piece has slight wear to the gold but overall is in outstanding condition.

Museum quality ancient Han dynasty, 206 BC – 220 AD, lead green deep dish from Luoyang, Henan Province. Excellent patina with the original silvering left intact on the rim of the dish. The 3rd photo shows a spur mark left by one of the clay firing stilts used to prop the dish to prevent it from sticking to the kiln floor. Antique Japanese gyosho bako, or merchant's box, with iron rings and a smoothed carved indentation on one side so that it may be carried comfortably on a person's back. It has an interesting signature branded on its front door, and its side has the branded mark of a trio of leaves. Japanese antique doll of a Noh theatre actor in the costume of Ko-Omote the beautiful young woman, dressed in a summer robe with gold flower basket on back, elaborate headress, removable mask reveals the face of the actor. Chinese cabinet from the Shandong province made from jumu wood (elm). The two front swinging doors open with brass pulls on long, brass panels. The shelved interior is very roomy. The sides of the cabinet have been lacquered in a muddled red. Dates from the 19th century. Very difficult to get these pieces. No export out of China. Size: 44.5" height, 34" width, 15.5" depth

This is a very attractive Vintage Japanese cloisonne vase designed with a contemporary style or deco look. We have never seen another like it. The vase is rather large and is signed Sato. It stands 7 1/2 tall and is 8 1/2 inches wide. It is in excellent condition with only a little pitting on the bottom rim. This is probably the finest cloisonne example we have seen produced from this company.
