1900's Japanese Satsuma Box with Flower

It is 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall by 7.2 inches (18.3 cm) wide. It is 4.8 Lb.

It has been repaired at the flower finial (glued back) and has rubbing of gold and paint, skip glazes, chips at the leaves at the finial, hairline cracks, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

A Spectacular Bizen Tsubo dripping with ash glaze by Yukuyoshi Manabu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bizen Yohen Tsubo (Kiln altered). The rim is covered in built up black ash, which grows more liquid as it enters the burning embers on the side, and is blasted around in rivulets to the back where it has created two shadows of raw earth where another pot was in close proximity. It is 23 cm (9 inches) diameter, 21.5 cm (8-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition.

A large heavy Korean brass bowl or tray that was used to carry smaller bowls of rice and vegetables to men working in the fields. The bowl was wrought to shape, and it shows the evidence of being hand pounded. The Bowl measures about 3 1/2" high x 13 1/2" in diameter, weighs about 3 1/2 pounds, and dates to the early 20th Century. The condition is very good with only minor surface tarnish and corrosion. It was the custom in Korea to polish brass, and such a bowl would shine up beautifully. ...

Hasui produced a thematically similar oban-sized greyscale print of the same title in 1936.
Hasui oval seal at lower left.
Condition: Right margin corners have two original pinholes. There is a much smaller pinhole just at the top right corner within the image that can be seen when the print is held to light.

These offering stands were used in Korea on a family altar to elevate offering to worship ones ancestors. These stands were owned by poor people and farmers, and they are good examples of Korean folk art. The largest stand is about 6" in diameter, followed by one at 5 1/2" and the other at 4 3/4". All of them show spur marks and grit where they were stacked for firing in a large kiln. They are all in good condition with no damage. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.
