Beautiful old classic Lao shoulder clothe, all natural dyes with hand spun silk threads. I picked this up on my first trip to Laos in the mid 1990s, at the Talat Sao Market, Vientiane and would date this to the 1970/80s. The fabric is incredibly soft and supple and may be worn (it is amazingly warm) as a scarf or hung as wall art. A genuine Shan State Bronze Buddha, 17/18th Century, subduing Mara and sitting on a fine stepped throne. Front base has engraved Shan script. The Buddha is filled and heavy, not hollow. It also has an old original dark patina with traces of gilt and very few remnants of cinnabar paint. Size: Height 20.5 cm x 13 cm (8.25" x 5.25" inches). Good condition overall.

A rare Himalayan hardwood storage chest with a simple hinge top lid. Originally from the foothills of the Himalayas this chest would have been used to keep safe storage of dry goods. All hand carved with geometric designs. Hand forged chain that hooks and secures the lid closed. Original finish with natural coloring. Very sturdy and in pristine condition.

A gunpowder horn dating to the 19th / early 20th century. The curved body is made from water buffalo horn, the wide end with a wooden stopper, the suspension area with a Singha head and a bronze chain. The gunpowder was stored in the Batak house in large gourds, the chief carried his own personal supply in such containers, which he wore suspended from a chain around his neck. Condition: the spout was originally with a closing mechanism now partially lost, some small losses and lost pins...

A large boat-shaped dish with superbly pierced, repoussed and engraved decoration of lotus flower scrolls. Base with "800" silver and "HISAM" maker's mark. Provenance: Swiss-Dutch family living in Indonesia in the first half of the 20th C. Condition: few traces of usage. Dimension: 31 x 23.2 x 7.1 cm, weight: 383 g.

Large Thai 14th - 15th Century Sawankhalok Celadon Bowl

This stoneware bowl was made at the Sawankhalok kilns around the 14th - 15th century. It is coated in an attractive and finely-crackled translucent celadon glaze that has just a hint of blue to it. It has become slightly warped during firing and the glaze has pooled to one side in its centre. To the unglazed base is the round mark of the pontil on which this bowl stood whilst in the kiln during firing...

These eight wayang kulit shadow puppets, called in Bali "ringgits", were bought from a dalang (shadow artist) in Bali around 1960 and had then already a certain age. In a wayang kulit performance, the puppet figures are mostly rear-projected on a linen screen. These puppets are made from rather thick pergament (cowhide) and painted in natural colors, many of them are inscribed with their name on the wooden sticks...

Carmine red silk ground fabric with star lattice pattern in silver and gold paper wrapped threads, using the songket supplementary weft technique. Maybe a ceremonial shoulder cloth (kain selendang). Vietnamese octagonal form jar with rounded edges decorated around the circumference in eight underglaze blue alternating floral and geometric panels set against a buff ground. A band of lotus leaves at the shoulder extend around the mouth. Unglazed flat base with an unidentified mark applied. 15th century. 3 1/4" high x 3 1/2" diameter. Antique Thai figure of seated Buddha Shakyamuni. Made of bronze and seated with his hands folded in meditation (Dhyana mudra).
