Antique Indonesian fine wood carved kris handle. The red/brown hardwood carved in an abstract figure with a bird's beak, a mystical being, with scrolling Cirebon (Cloud) motifs throughout. This imagery is tied to tantric Bhairavist cults. The base of the carving is covered by the metal hilt and stands on an iron base.

It is played as a gesture of fearlessness and as a way of cutting off the ego. With silver mounts intricately decorated with floral motifs and dragons, inlaid with turquoise. Unusual Thai architectural sculpture known as a chofa. These beast-like ornaments embellish temple and palace rooftops as a symbol of power and protection. Natural patina and remnants of red show antiquity. A photo is shown to demonstrate how a chofa would look while still in place on a temple roof. The temple shown is in Chiang Mai, the largest and most culturally rich city in Thailand.

This is an 18th century, or early 19th century Balinese iron buckle, decorated with serpent motifs with gold inlay. There is some age-related rubbing with associated loss to the inlay, as would be expected. There is an inlaid calligraphic inscription to the back of the "fastener," which I have not had translated. The pieces measure, variously, 2-5/8" X 2-1/2" for the buckle, and 2-1/2" X 1-1/2" for the "fastener." The listing is for both pieces.

A monochrome porcelain Vietnamese bowl from the 14th-16th Century. The clear ivory glaze has an incised design of a flower with 2 lines above it. The exterior of the bowl has a carved lotus pattern that extends to the bowl's small footing. During the 14th century, a second stacking method for firing was introduced using a ring-shape separator. It became the preferred stacking method by the 15th century. Vessels fired using this method have an unglaze ring on the inner base...
