Antique Korean three section lacquer cabinet, with elaborate inlaid scenes of various birds, deer, fish, and flowers. Auspicious creatures with fish tails, turtle shells, and the head of mammals are also seen in several panels. Brass hardware decorates the pieces such as butterfly shaped lockplates and hinges. Each section has double doors with wonderful paintings inside each door, depicting various scenes of nature and happy school children. 19th century Size: 69" H x 39" W x 21" D

Sublime Celadon Tea Bowl by the Last Korean Princess, Yi Bangja (1901 - 1989) with the original signed box. The glaze is the same prized celadon color and refined texture as that achieved by 12th century Korean potters. She has expertly created pools of thicker glaze and resulting darker color around the circumference of the rim, foot, and carved raised band. She has highlighted the single subtle carved lotus blossom with the same glaze pooling technique...

This pair of painted portraits depicts the newlywed Justice Minister Choi Seok-min (1858-1915) and his wife. The level of photo-like realism in these paintings is astounding. 19th Century portraits of women are exceedingly scarce. This is the only example we have ever seen offered for sale. The documentation pictured here is included with this pair of portraits. Each painting is 49 x 18 inches, 124.5 x 45.5 cm.

This is the only ancient Korean mace ever offered for sale. The few existing examples are all in museums in Korea. It is from the Early Joseon Dynasty, 16th Century or earlier. Only Korea has this type of straight mace with a perfectly round head. And the head is made from iron insets just like the scales on Korean royal armor. 22 inches (46 cm) long, 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide.

THREAD

Five pieces set of cotton thread wound around the cores of several materials (as bamboo or sort of straw? And, iron-like stuff), unused and stored for long years in deadstock condition (but with some expected stains due to aging), late 20th century, Korea, approx. 13.5-18.0 x H 5.0-6.5cm (5.31-7.08 x 1.96-2.55in)...

These offering stands were used in Korea on a family altar to elevate offering to worship ones ancestors. These stands were owned by poor people and farmers, and they are good examples of Korean folk art. The largest stand is about 6" in diameter, followed by one at 5 1/2" and the other at 4 3/4". All of them show spur marks and grit where they were stacked for firing in a large kiln. They are all in good condition with no damage. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.
