Antique Korean bandaji (blanket storage) chest made with mirrored persimmon wood panels and hardware of brass and iron. The door of the chest is hinged and opens downward to reveal a large storage compartment. Blue-glazed porcelain carp fish, a Korean scholar’s water dropper. The carp was regarded as a symbol of endurance and never-ceasing ambition - a good example for a calligrapher. The two small holes let out the drops of water needed to make fluent ink out of the hard and dry inkstone surface. Joseon dynasty, probably late 19th century. Width "3/ 7.5 cm, height "1/ 2.7 cm.
