Blue-glazed porcelain carp fish, a Korean scholar’s water dropper. The carp was regarded as a symbol of endurance and never-ceasing ambition - a good example for a calligrapher. The two small holes let out the drops of water needed to make fluent ink out of the hard and dry inkstone surface. Joseon dynasty, probably late 19th century. Width "3/ 7.5 cm, height "1/ 2.7 cm. A Very Fine/Rare Korean Total Blue Hae-Tae (Sea Lion)-Shape Water Dropper-19th C.: Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th century. Amusingly molded as a recumbent figure of a mythical lion-dog, the surface details incised and realistically molded, decorated in a washy underglaze blue beneath a white glaze, the base unglazed. It’s in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, it measures in inches:3” L. x 2 3/8” w. x 1 3/8” h. (7.5cm x 6cm x 3.5cm).

Korean 19th Century / Choson Blue & White Porcelain Jar in Box

This porcelain jar of globular form was made during the 19th century toward the latter part of the Choson (Joseon) Dynasty. The underglaze blue decoration comprises floral patterns and two bands surrounding the neck. It is quite "heavily-potted" and there are couple of firing bubbles, no doubt due to the thickness of the clay. There is kiln grit embedded within the glaze to the base.
