Charming rustic Japanese antique jizai hook for heating water over a fire, made of keyaki (elm) wood and carved in the shape of a fish, beautiful wood grain with a deep patina from years of use, an iron hook is attached to the tail, a rope or chain would have threaded through a vertical hole from head to mouth, Edo Period (early to mid 19th century). This is a very colorful Japanese Plique-a-Jour cloisonne vase. The colors used are a little different than most and contrast beautifully.(See images) Condition is very good. But when held up to bright light a line can be seen. It does not show in normal lighting. The vase is even a little different size. It stands 3 5/8 inches tall.

This is Tsutsugaki used in the Tohoku district. This was dyed with an indigo plant. As for it, dark blue and light blue contrast are fair. The cotton spun by hand has good texture. The local custom, the way of thinking affect the motif of Tsutsugaki. It is a very rare thing to adjust the hanging scroll of the letter to a theme happy. This is a very attractive Japanese Imari bowl. For an old Imari piece it is in excellent condition. It is also a very heavy piece potted. The bowl measures 8 1/2 inches across and 4 inches tall.

The 14 petal Imperial Chrysanthemum forms a triad emblazoned in gold on the lid of this exquisite mizusashi fresh water jar by Imperial Court Artist Ito Tozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box dated as having been received in June 1911. An antique Japanese Wood Buddhist altar fitting known as a keman. The hand fan like shape were thought to have originated from flower garland offerings seen in India. The keman is decorated with motifs of lotuses with two apsaras. The top of the keman has the crest of the Tokugawa family. Age: Edo Period 17/18th century, Size: Length 25" Height 9.5" Width 1.5"

This is a small unusual Japanese Porcelain vase. It has is a textured totai like ground with moriage flowers and leaves. The plant appears to be a water lily. The vase stands 3 1/4 inches tall and in 3 inches wide. It is in excellent condition. The vase is signed Bizan Zo.

A massive tiger defensively nudges the female deity on this amazing 19th century silk Fukusa. Hand-painted and composed from patchwork patterns of lavish antique brocades and featuring glass eyes and metal teeth and claws sewn into the fabric of the creature. The piece is backed with red rinzu silk patterned with cranes and plum blossoms. It is 23-1/2 x 25-1/2 inches (59 x 64 cm) and is in fine condition. It comes wrapped around a pillow in a large kiri-wood box.

Exquisite set of Japanese Dairi bina (hina), the emperor and the empress dolls from early to mid Showa period. This is not a large set of dolls. The measurements of the wood box are 17” wide x 12 3/4” tall x 13 1/2” deep. We should add the approximate sizes of dolls. The label indicates that they are from Matsuzaka-ya, a major department store. Matsuzaka-ya started as a kimono store in late 16th century, pre Edo period...

Ryugu-jo Castle is depicted in gold couched thread on the blue silk field of this superb Fukusa gift cloth dating from the turn of the 19th century. Frothing white waves surround the mythical palace, and the four corners of the cloth are secured by long-tailed minogame turtles, befitting the scene. Japanese hand hammered Copper Water Container or Mizusashi for tea ceremony, 6 3/4" high with dark brown lacquered on wood top, 6 1/4" diameter, shape of ancient urn. The condition is good, except little lacquer losses on the side edge of the cover.
