A large white bronze Koro by Tsuda Eiju exhibited at the 14th Nitten in 1982. It is published in the catalog for that year, and comes with the Nitten card upon which it is pictured. The creature is 45 cm (18 inches) tall, 30 cm (12 inches) wide and in excellent condition. Tsuda Eiju (1915-2001) studied under Tsuda Shinobu (1875-1946) eventually becoming his heir. He was accepted into and awarded at the Nitten National Exhibition many times including the Hokutosho prize.

A powerful Bizen sculptural vessel by Motoharu Kurokawa Of a trapezoidal shape, with irregular cut away parts on both sides. Kurokawa Motoharu ( Tokyo, 1957 - ) is an innovative craftsman from Okayama, who works with Bizen, he has won numerous prizes for the originality of his works. Member of Japan Kogei Association. Wood board used by a "nushi", a lacquer-ware artisan in charge of lacquering urushi. It has natural dripping and dried glue(natural) while lacquering. Both sides are beautiful. In good condition. The first half of the 20th century. 9.5cm x 91cm x 0.9cm

A pair of antique Japanese candlesticks dating to the Meiji period 1868-1911. The stands are made of copper and measure about 17 1/2" tall x 5 1/2" in diameter, across the weighted bottoms. The stands have been engraved with an assortment of family mons, both on the bases, and up the sticks. The condition is very good. There are no dents or broken pieces, and a dark patina has developed over the years. The asking price includes shipment within the USA.

Dark cobalt sinks deep into the rough terracotta clay giving this large serving platter its name Genso 27 (The periodic table number for cobalt). This is by Murakoshi Takuma, part of his newest series of work and comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Genso 27 Kaku-zara (Atomic number 27 Square Platter). It is criss-crossed with drizzled snow white and emerald green which float on the surface in shiny drifts...

A large hanging Japanese scroll of Daruma the founder of Zen Buddhism that dates to Circa 1900. Duruma has been painted in red and black, on fine silk, and mounted as a scroll using gold threaded brocade borders. The scroll ends are made of a tropical hardwood. The scroll has been signed and marked with the Seal of Kano Sanroka. The scroll measures about 21 3/4" x 80", and the picture by itself measures about 16" x 44". The condition is good...

Vivid dark ash forms emerald pools in the center of these 5 ogi-men (round fan) shaped slabs by Murakoshi Takuma. Size, shape, color, texture: these are perfect for showing off your signature dish with style. They are roughly 16 x 20 cm (6 x 8 inches), 2 cm (1 inch) thick and in excellent condition, directly from the artist this winter. An evocative thick slab curling up to form a basin on a circular solid clay foot elevating the contents 7 cm (3 inches) off the table. The artist fingers are clearly visible in the base forming deep impressions about which the cobalt and feldspar meander in rivulets...

Japanese seal converted to a netsuke; finely carved Foo Dog in natural material; this looks to have been converted very early; fine honey-coloured patina; good condition

Antique Japanese netsuke in the form of a fudog. Carved of boxwood, the fudog leans on a ball. With eyes wide and mouth open, his mane flows down his back. He curls his body around the ball, gripping it in three paws while balancing on his back leg. Age and use have added an appealing smooth quality of the netsuke.

An early and rarely seen design.

Lacquered and painted wood travel coffer or cabinet with iron mountings and lock. Japanese work. The exterior is black lacquered decorated with gold and polychrome. Some typical patterns allow us to date it with certainty around 1580 more or less 20 years. Very rare specimen, few similar models exist. The lock is one of the very first executed in Japan because it was the Portuguese who brought the technique when they landed in Japan around 1550...

Here is another sophisticated Karatsu Chawan, which represents the wabi sabi philosophy of Japan at its best with expected impressions of roughness, austerity and intimacy.

This Karatsu-yaki tea bowl with its wonderful surface is about 80-90 years old.

An antique Japanese bamboo Ikebana basket in a barrel shape with dual double arm connected handle. The body is woven with multiple layered bamboo strips in a horizontal pattern which gives strength and tenacity to the piece as well as the symbolic nature of bamboo. The base is a bamboo rope foot with a star patterned bottom. Natural soot patina contrasted against chestnut brown highlights.
