Overall a very nice example with legitimate age, good presence, and very decorative...

Though modest in size, its stature should not belie the amount of work needed to create this wonderful little object, as filigree work is very intricate and time consuming. There is a plethora of arts and crafts throughout the Rajasthan region, but the different cities there tend to have a few art forms in particular that they each excel at... From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a large carved marble caparisoned elephant from Southern India. Naturalistically carved from a cream / off-white colored marble, this makes for a good decorator's item for those looking to add an Indian flair.
Size and Condition: 12 inches tall, 10 inches long, and 4 inches deep. A very heavy and substantial piece of marble at approximately 20 pounds.

This fantastic vessel is composed of a metallic body, most likely copper alloy, that has been lacquered and then exquisitely painted with floral motifs in rich but subtle shades of blue, red, yellow, taupe, black, and with gilt highlights...

The central panel uses purple and red silks along with gold thread woven into elaborate floral and geometric designs, and the borders use blue and green silks along with gold thread as well.

17th Century White Tara Tibetan Thangka. The White Tara goddess symbolizes transcendent knowledge and purity. In ancient Tibet, it was believed that Tara was reincarnated in every virtuous and pious woman. She was born from the eye of Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of compassion, and became his wife. 17th Century Bhaisajyaguru Thangka. Antique Tibetan Thangka of the Medicine Buddha seated upon a lotus throne, holding the medicine bowl, and surrounded by Heavenly clouds and four Bodhisattva. Most of these thangka were photographed through glass frames, so there may be a little blurriness. This thankga was in an exhibition at the University of Texas Art Museum. Mineral pigments on silk. 16 x 12 inches, 40 x 30 cm.
