Often painted with single-haired sable brushes or their equivalent, some of the details here are so fine they are difficult to appreciate without a jeweler's loop...

This is a very well-painted miniature depicting a courtly scene of a nobleman and his companion on the terrace of a palace. Although Mughal in style, I am not 100% convinced that the painting is indeed of the period. For that reason, I am listing it as decorative only and have priced it accordingly. The trellised outer border which surrounds the painting itself is embellished with what appears to be metallic silver highlights. The painted area within the trellised frame measures 4-1/4" X 8"...

Back in the day we used to call these compositions "Peshawars," referencing their point of origin as Peshawar Pakistan, but it is possible that similar pieces are being produced in the border regions of Northern India these days as travel through Pakistan has become much more hazardous.
