Chinese calligraphy brush pot, all hand-carved from bamboo. The low relief carvings depict a group of scholars riding in a boat through a rocky landscape scene with hanging pine branches. The rendering is similar to ink painting. Has subtle silver inlay in the river.

DESCRIPTION: An attractive scholar's calligraphy brush, crafted using long brown horsehair bristles attached to a bulbous ox-horn ferrule and segmented, solid ox- horn shaft. A very handsome brush in good condition from the latter Qing Dynasty, which would have been used for calligraphy or painting. DIMENSIONS: 14” long (35.5 cm).

Antique Chinese calligraphy brush from the 19th century. The handle is made of bone, highly polished, with an incised inscription. A fine red ribbon is the hanger. The bristles are white horse hair. It measures 9.5" long.

19th Century

A rare and beautiful, flattened form bamboo box with cover, probably used as a seal paste or brush washer. It is carved out from the root part of bamboo and nicely polished. Inside the lid a compass (no longer functioning). Qing, 18–19th cent. H 3 cm, D 7,5 cm. Condition: Over-all fine, and really good, old patina, but with small chip to lid.

A wood brush pot was in nice form.
It was well preserved despite the bottom cover was lost and was replaced by an old plank of wood.
The surface was in kind of dry-feel and in pale tint. But I believe it can be transformed easily by rubbing with wood wax and changed to a beautifulcolor.

Small porcelain Vietnamese shipwreck recovery water dropper in the shape of an elephant. The glaze has dissolved after so long under the water but the body is intact. This is most likely from the Cau Ma shipwreck, circa 1775, discovered off the coast of Vietnam. No chips or damage. L: 6.2cm/3.2in and H: 5cm/2in.

An elegant and fine ink-stone (Shezhou, Anhui) made of carved, dark schist with minor, green-brown inclusions. One “eye.” Two small feet at top end. Fitted and finely carved lid of chicken wing wood (jichimu). The inscription reads: “A treasure from the Zhishi shanfang.” In a Japanese box from the 19th century (with full inscription). China: Qing, probably 18th cent. L 16,5 cm, W 11 cm. Condition: Excellent (small chip in ink-well).

Description : A Qing Inkstone was in big size and was in hefty weight.
It was hand-carved and shaped in bridge-type.
Well preserved in perfect condition, this Inkstone owned the original mood of scholarship.

Chinese Qing dynasty to early Republic period naturalistic form wood brush pot with a hollow circular top for holding brushes. Carved from a single piece of wood, the recessed base is not a separate plug. Late 19th to early 20th century. 7 3/4” high x about 8” diameter at the base and 4” diameter at the outer edge of the top; interior of the brush holder: 3 3/4" deep x about 2 1/4" diameter; weighs 4 lb. 3 7/8 oz. Late 19c Chinese Blackwood or possibly Zitan wood brush pot in the classic style with smooth sides and a raised ring at mouth and bottom having 3 low standing low profile feet with drain hole in center bottom of pot. Carved from a single piece of wood, it still retains its original plug which is easily removed for drainage. In excellent condition commensurate with age, it measures 4-5/8" high x 4-1/8" diameter.

19th Century Chinese Cinnabar Lead Body Scholar Brush Holder

It is 3.4 inches (8.7 cm) tall by 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide. It is 130.4 gram.

It has hairline cracks, glue trace at the top rim, repairs at the base and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

It is 4.65 inches (11.8 cm) tall by 1.8 inches (4.6 cm) wide. It is 69.2 gram.
