A rare and very finely caste heavy bronze (copper tin alloy) incense burner in the form of a playful crouching 'lion'. This item was made in Ming dynasty China probably during the 16th or early 17th Century. Condition: the cover is missing; otherwise very good. A rare bronze (copper & tin alloy) incense burner in the form of a Qilin made in China during the late Ming period.

Condition: the cover is missing and there is a small hole in the base; there is copper oxidation inside the tail and there are traces of the original black lacquer coating between its scales and in some of the recesses.

/ 6 inches high; 15 cm / 6 inches across.

Chinese bronze tripod ding censor with two upright arched loop handles at the rim. A geometric band encircles the rounded body. A comparison with porcelain forms suggests a dating of S. Song to Yuan dynasty for this vessel. 5 1/8"H x 3 3/4" diameter. There are original casting flaws on the legs and a slight dent in the body (see enlargement 6). This piece is from a Tucson, Arizona estate.

Rare and endearing figure of a young boy disciple of Quanyin (the Goddess of Compassion) wearing a garment etched with a lotus flower - the symbol of Buddhism. He is often depicted near Quanyin with his hands in reverential prayer. The bronze is heavily cast and has wires imbedded underneath the pedestal, perhaps for attaching to a group of figures.
