A very elegant and well carved sculpture of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, goddess of mercy. Made of Zitan, one of the rarest hardwoods in China. H. 26 cm. Dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. We bought this piece from a Dutch private collection.

A Chinese ruyi scepter carved from beautiful zitan wood, a symbol of good fortune used in Buddhist ceremonies. "Ruyi" directly translates into "as you wish". It has been ornately carved with lingzhi mushrooms on the head and running down the curved handle, which ends in a gnarled root form. High quality carve work. Beautiful distinctive grain of zitan wood. Size: 14.5" length, 3.5" width

A wonderful statue of the Bodhisattva Kwan Yin carved from precious aloeswood. The distinct and pleasant fragrance of aloeswood is the result of a special kind of mould and is highly treasured for its use in incense and perfumes among various Eastern religions. This Kwan Yin has been decorated with gold and silver pigment. Small losses. Republic period. Size: 18" height, 6" width, 5.5" depth Weight: 1829 grams, 4.05lbs

Decorated with a deer, a bird between blossom and a poem. Good age wear and a warm glossy patina. H. 9 cm. Very good condition, apart from some age cracks and an old repair. 19th century.

A well carved hardwood figure of an emmaciated aescetic, probably depicting the Chinese Daoist Immortal Li Tieguai. This item was made in China, probably for export, during either the late 19th or early 20th century. Condition: there is a small old chip to one finger and an old age crack to the base; otherwise excellent. 27cm (10.5 inches} high.

The Taoist immortal Liu Hai is performing a handstand on his three-legged toad. Condition: leg of the animal and foot of Liu Hai with small loss, a crack. Dimension: 9.5 cm high.
